BECOME A FOSTER PARENT

Children aged birth to 21 may need foster care for just a few days or may be in placement for longer than a year. Some children are stepping down from residential treatment, some have developmental delays, many have suffered abuse, others have never benefited from expectations or structure, most have built walls around themselves to keep out the hurt, and all have lost their homes and families. Steps to Licensing

To become a licensed foster parent with Alpha Management Community Services, you must:

  1. Complete an online inquiry form
  2. Participate in a screening/information session via phone
  3. Complete a Foster Parent Application
  4. Receive an invitation to the next MAPP training
  5. Successfully complete 40 hours of pre-service training
  6. Mutually select (family and agency) to pursue licensure

Licensing Requirements

To be considered for licensing, you must meet all requirements:

 

  1. Minimum 21 years of age
  2. High school diploma or GED
  3. Criminal background check and fingerprint clearance for everyone in the home over the age of 18
  4. Physical examination for everyone in the home
  5. Fire inspection of the home
  6. Good physical and mental health
  7. Home walk-through by the agency
  8. Have stable, verifiable source of income

Training

Once licensed, you must complete 10 hours of in-service training each year for a total of 20 hours for the two-year license period. These courses are required to retain certification:

 

  1. First Aid (pre-placement & every two years)
  2. CPR (pre-placement & every two years)
  3. Medication Administration (pre-placement)
  4. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (annually)
